The Birthday

Last Friday my son turned 5 years old. He shares this day with his Grandpa who was turning 60 this year. He chose this day to be born all on his own, no induction, no Cesarian. In fact he is the only one of my kids to be born earlier than his due date which was three days later. What a way kiss up to your grandpa than being born on his birthday!

Even though there were two birthday boys, we still had a traditional American No-Pinata party (due to lack of funds and a pregnant, non-motivated mother.)

Even the decorations were minimal.

In fact, the most festive I got was making him this "rocket" cake. (If you can't tell, that is a number 5, not an S, and there is an astronaut on the top that was promptly removed and misplaced.) I'm not much of a cake decorator, but he seemed to like it exclaiming what every mother wishes to hear:

"Oh Mom, that is so cool!"

Still, I don't think he minded since he was showered with gifts. Maybe if we wouldn't have bought so many presents, we could've afforded a pinata???

BTW, the hat comes from pre-school. He wore it all day long.

FELIZ CUMPLEANOS A TI, MI HIJO!

(Ya queremos pastel, aunque sea un pedacito, Ya queremos pastel!)

Happy Birthday Handiemom's son!
Add your dad too! (I wished him a Happy Bday over at Sketchy's...'cause I bet he's keeping track).

"Oh Mom, that is so cool!", I agree, that's rocket cake is everything a little 5 year old ever dreamed of.

Yay for mad cake decorating skillz!

Yeah!! There was much rejoicing at my house when I announced there were pictures from Ethan's birthday party here now. Ok, mainly from Brooke and Alex, but they were happy.

Your cake is perfect! So cute.

Happy Birthday Little Boy! I loved the cake! The "5" was totally recognizable. What a cute boy Ethan is... he and my Carter are just a couple months apart.

Thanks for the pics! :)

WV: "wetbag" - huh?

NCS: Thanks for the praise. Did they sing the "Queremos pastel" song in MX? They did in Guatemala.

And your Happy Girl is looking mighty festive.

Shelly: Your cake compliment is especially important to me considering your cake making skills.

Millie: So did you already have your party or is it coming?

I love your cake. Don't you love how easy little kids are to please? Last year I made Julio a lego cake (normal cake with 6 cupcakes on top) gracias a Family Fun's cool site. It looked not nearly as cool as your rocket and he LOVED.IT.

Happy birthday to your cutie!!
