We just moved into this house last August and up until now, I have had a black thumb. Everything I have attempted to grow has died. This is the first house we have owned and we are attempting to try our hand at planting things. And I'm so excited because things are growing! So I wanted to share them with you all.
These are iris plants that were left over from the last owner. The only thing we had to do was trim them back last fall and they are growing strong! They are so pretty. My picture doesn't do them justice.
These plants also just appeared. Apparently the previous owner had a love of perenials.
I planted these petunias myself and I have to say I am the most proud of these because I didn't kill them! The planter box was pretty sad and sorry looking when we moved in so this spring we cleaned it out and put the plants in. They were very small at first and now they are overflowing. I am beginning to love gardening!
Tune in next week to see my small but flourishing vegetable garden.........
And now on to this week's Fast and Friendly Recipe. Only I'm sorry to say this is not Friday. Friday I was having trouble posting to this site so this will have to be a Saturday meal. But it is still quick and easy!
This week I'm promoting Taco Soup introduced to me by my sister in law. My kids won't eat chilli, but they LOVE this and it is 10 times easier.
1 lb hamburger
1/2 onion, chopped (or 2-4 Tb minced onion)
1 can tomatoes (I like crushed, but you can use diced, whole, etc.)
1 can corn
1 pkg. taco seasoning (or 4 Tb if bought in bulk)
2 cans pinto beans (or kidney if you like better)
1 bag tortilla chips
Sour Cream
Grated Cheddar Cheese
Salsa
Brown hamburger with onion. Drain grease. Add next 4 ingredients. Stir and cook until warm. Serve over tortilla chips. Top with sour cream, cheese, salsa al gusto.
That's it! It is tasty and my kids eat it up. Here's to a great Saturday!

Looks lovely Steph! Good for you!
PS: What happened to Fast Food Friday - I had to think of something to cook all by myself, lol.
PPS: I removed the password off my site -- too many people were having problems. So you can link me now if you want.
I love Irises! And your petunias are doing really well, too. Flowers are such wonderful blessings.(And how do you make the neat border around your pictures?)
Shelly: Way to go on removing the password! Your site needs to be seen and heard! The recipe is up now. You got a preview of a blog unfinished.
Nettie: I love irises too although I think I'm being taken over by them. The border comes from Flickr.com I'm using it to upload photos now. Much easier!
Beautiful flowers! My garden is severly neglected right now. :( And mmmmmmmm taco soup sounds fabulous right now!
Thansk for the tag - will let you know when I've completed it!
Hey Steph - good to see you! The garden is lovely and the recipe sounds great. How fun to find you online! Come visit! :)
Pretty flowers. I am impressed, I kill everything green in my house.
I love taco soup, especially the toppings.
We had one other person interested, and I forgot to tell her to remind her to let me know before Friday. Whoops. I will be gone the next two Fridays. Hmmmmm. What to do?
Lei: You mean you're not out gardening in the last trimester of pregnancy? What kind of homemaker are you? Hee Hee :) (There was no way I planted flowers with a baby inside me!)
Gabriela: You'll be gone, eh? Are you jet-setting again? I suggest posting Thursday for a Pre-Friday meal. We'll all enjoy it just the same.
Oh good -- I'm glad I read the comments! I was thinking I was blind when I looked on here and found the recipe staring at me!
Shelly
